weekly update

Thanks so much to the all the parents who sent in party treats and parents who came in and helped with our party. We had a great time!

This week, we read fall-themed books and discussed important story elements. We also reviewed how to sequence a story to retell it well. We made text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections to this literature as well.

We integrated math, writing, and reading to go along with a fun pumpkin carving activity on Halloween. The students measured their pumpkins, described their pumpkins in detail, and wrote some fun fall stories!

We also did Walk for Owls this week! The students enjoyed receiving owl tattoos, eating popsicles, doing some power walking, and hula-hooping/jumping rope in the gym. We've got some students with awesome hula-hooping skills!

Next week, we will be having our Quarterly Testing in Math and Reading. This will give us the chance to see what students have learned so far this year.

It's that time of year again! Fall means cooler weather so make sure to send your children with jackets. Also, when fall hits, students start to become "comfortable" with each other. As a whole, we are starting to become careless with our words to one another. Remind your children (as I remind them throughout the day) to be careful with their tones and words to one another and when they feel they have hurt someone to always tell that person they are sorry. I have the best class a teacher could ask for but we all make mistakes and there are always two sides to a story. :)

Here's a look ahead for the month of November:
Nov. 4-8: Penny Wars (Look for info coming home about this: Remember this includes all forms of change, not just pennies!)
Nov. 11: Veteran's Day-no school!
Nov. 27-29: Thanksgiving Break

Have a great week!
