Spring is here! Although the weather doesn't seem to understand! Hoping for some warmer weather later in the week! Less homework will be given this week.

There will be no math homework. Please continue doing the Letterland homework each night (except on Wednesday night). Students need to read their baggy books each night and be ready to take a test at least twice this week. Also, they need to do their Reader's Response Journals (RRJ) Monday and Wednesday nights.

Thanks and have a great week!

Read Across America Week!

We had so much fun reading Dr. Seuss books and participating in many fun Dr. Seuss activities last week. Two students from our class even made it into the Observer News Enterprise going through the lunch line ordering green eggs and ham and wearing their Thing 1 and Thing 2 hats!

We had some wonderful Mystery Readers come in to the class and the students really enjoyed the read alouds! Thanks again!
(H, you will be missed! Hope you enjoy your new school. We know you will make lots of new friends!)

We also designed and tested out our own roller coasters to learn more about force and motion in science. I can't believe I forgot to take pictures of students designing these roller coasters. They had a blast! It was quite loud in my room with students being super excited when their rollercoasters worked. I admit I was yelling in excitement on occasion too!

It was a super fun week of activities. I also enjoyed my conference Thursday and Friday and learned lots of exciting activities to implement into the classroom. See everyone on Monday!

February Happenings

Hi all! Our reading testing is over and I am very happy with your children's growth in reading! I sent home a reading level update and will be sending home report cards and MClass reports tomorrow. I am very happy to get back to a normal guided reading schedule so students can grow in reading even more!

Our first grade team has a lot of fun activities planned for the month of February. We will be celebrating the 100th day of school next Monday, February 9 as well as doing some fun Valentine-themed activities aligned with the Common Core curriculum. We have Jump Rope for Heart activities this month as well so be on the look out for activities with that coming home soon.

In math our class has been learning how to create graphs and create and answer questions about those graphs. We are moving on to learning how to combine 2D shapes to create new shapes and will be learning all about fractions next week!

Writing is such an important component to reading. We are continuing with writing to fun journal prompts including imaginative, opinion, and narrative journals. We are also making great progress on our reader's responses to the books we are reading.  It's amazing to see how much better writers these kids are becoming since the beginning of the year.

Please see the newest newsletter under the Newsletter tab. It's kind of hard to read so I have attached a copy to email as well. It has important dates coming up this month as well as some wish list items for the classroom.

Also fill out the Valentine social sign-up to bring an item for the party. I am also including a sign-up for a 100th day snack we are doing next Monday. I know I say this a ton-but I mean it!- Thanks so much for all your help at home! :)

Have a great week!
